Leipzig missed a heavy blow to Zenit

The Leipzig team played a very strong game, but Zenit beat only 2: 1 in the first match of the 1/8-finals in the Europa League. Timo Werner’s extraordinary performance – he scored one and assisted for the other goal – gave the Germans a slight advantage before the match in St. Petersburg in a week.

Roberto Mancini’s team was disappointed most of the time, and over 70 minutes did not even hit the red bulls door. The hosts led convincingly with two hits, but four minutes before the end Domenico Krishte realized from a direct-free hit.

The Leipzig players showed that they had taken a lesson from the rematch against Napoli in the previous phase and were totally concentrated almost all the time.

In the 35th minute the beam stopped Emil Forschberg from falling into Zenit’s net.

The breakthrough came after the break. First, in the 56th minute, Werner with a heel brought Bruma alone against the goalkeeper and Razenbalshport led 1: 0.

Then in the 77th minute Navi Keita slalomed between the defenders in blue teams and handed to Werner, who from the same position as Brūma made 2: 0. However, there remained doubts about the ambush of the German striker.

Zenit still managed to regain the chances after Kristios scored a foul in the 86th minute.

Then Marcello Zabitzer could score a third goal for the Bundesliga team, but there was no chance.
